What You Will Learn
German Language for Beginners – Unit 7: Learning & Working focuses on helping you communicate confidently in academic and professional environments—even with beginner-level German.
Many learners reach A1 and can talk about family, hobbies, or food, but feel stuck when it comes to talking about work, studies, or formal situations. This unit fills that gap by giving you the most useful German vocabulary and sentence structures for learning and working contexts.
You’ll start by learning how to talk about your studies or training, then move on to jobs, professions, and workplaces. You’ll practice saying what you do, where you work, and what your typical working day looks like. Special attention is given to masculine and feminine job titles, an essential part of German.
Grammar is always practical and contextual. You’ll learn how to use modal verbs such as dürfen (may), können (can), and müssen (must) to talk about permission, ability, and obligation—key structures for school and work communication. You’ll also practice polite expressions commonly used in professional German.
This unit also introduces real workplace communication, including phone calls and basic email writing. These lessons help you understand how Germans communicate formally and politely, even at beginner level.
With 24 short videos, the unit is easy to follow and ideal for daily study. By the end of Unit 7, you’ll be able to speak about your learning path, describe your job, communicate in basic professional situations, and feel much more confident using German outside of casual conversations.

This unit was extremely helpful for me as a beginner. I already knew some basic German, but I didn’t know how to talk about my studies or work in a clear and polite way. Unit 7 explains everything step by step and uses real situations that actually happen in daily life.
I especially liked the lessons about jobs, workplaces, and modal verbs like können, dürfen, and müssen. They were explained very clearly and with practical examples that I can reuse. The phone call and email lessons were also very useful and made me feel more confident using German in professional situations.
The lessons are short, easy to follow, and not overwhelming. After finishing this unit, I can talk about what I study, what job I do, and communicate more politely in German. I highly recommend this unit to anyone learning German for work, study, or everyday professional situations.
